I was convinced students only respond to yelling. They don't respond well when you're nice to them. Another teacher told me that if you act too nice it will freak them out and yelling will burn you out. He talk unusually soft to one student and said "Come here little Tony, take a seat, and be quiet. Ok?" Tony did and complained to me saying "That man creeps me out!" and I thought "That man's a genius!"
